The UK’s Prime Minister Tony Blair, was yesterday admitted to hospital after suffering from what was reported to be an irregular heartbeat.

Mr Blair, aged 50, was taken to London's Hammersmith Hospital after complaining of chest pains, where he received treatment.

Late last week the Prime Minister had been in Brussels for an EU summit.

A speech which was to be made to the House of Common’s today (20 October) on that Summit will now be made by Jack Straw, the Foreign Secretary, instead.

"He has suffered no damage and is fine. There is no reason why this should re-occur", read a statement from the Prime Minister's office.

Mr Blair has been told by doctors that he must rest for 24 hours.
