The Parliament of Cyprus today (14 July) unanimously approved the country's accession into the European Union. The divided island is the only one of the ten countries set to join the EU bloc May next year, without holding a national referendum.
The European Commission sent its congratulations to Cyprus, saying the ratification "demonstrates the strong will of Cyprus to join the European family of democratic nations as a member of the European Union, with equal rights and obligations."<...
