Japanese premier begins Europe trip

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi arrived in Germany on Sunday (17 August) to start a week long visit to Europe, during which he will meet also meet leaders of Poland and the Czech Republic.

"All three countries are important to Japan's relationship with the EU, with Germany having been in a leadership position and Poland and the Czech Republic about to become new members,'' Mr Koizumi said last week according to Asahi.
