Germany formally ends nuclear era

The German parliament on Thursday passed a series of laws phasing-out the use of nuclear energy and promoting renewable energies instead. The world's fourth-largest industrial nation is scheduled to be nuclear-free by 2022, Spiegel Online reports. The vote was 513 to 79, with eight abstentions.
