EU moves towards aviation carbon trading

EU Climate Action Commissioner Connie Hedegaard on Monday published the benchmark values to be used to allocate greenhouse gas emission allowances free of charge to more than 900 aircraft operators. Despite protests by American airlines in particular aviation is to become part of the EU's emissions trading system from 2012.
