EU sticks to UN plan despite Annan's departure

EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton has said outgoing UN envoy Kofi Annan's 6-point plan for a "Syrian-led" political transition "remains the best hope" for solving the conflict. Annan is to step down at the end of August, saying warring parties do not want peace and the UN is divided.
