Al-Qaida blamed for European forest fires

Russia’s Federal Security Service director Alexander Bortnikov Wednesday blamed al-Qaida terrorists for starting forest fires in southern Europe, saying the tactic was designed to cause damage at little cost, Interfax reports. Environmental groups such as Greenpeace and WWF reacted with scepticism, saying there was little evidence to support the claim.
