Member states back offshore oil saftey directive

Member states on Wednesday agreed to back a draft directive to improve the safety of offshore oil and gas operations. The directive aims to reduce the risk of major disasters and their consequences on the environment and coastal economies. The European Parliament is to vote on the legislation in May.
