Obama rules out economic espionage

US leader Obama in a presidential directive Friday ruled out use of intelligence gathering to "afford a competitive advantage to US companies." He said signals intelligence is "necessary for ... national security," but risks "[harming] our relationships with other nations ... a potential loss of international trust in US firms."
