Italian president to step down

Giorgio Napolitano Thursday announced his "imminent departure" as Italy's president. The 89-year old, a well-respected figure, has always indicated he would not serve the full term of office, due to his age. Speculation has already started on whether the search for a successor will delay PM Renzi's reform programme.
