Linux conquers Microsoft in Munich

Munich has become the first large European city to change the operating system of its 14,000 computers, choosing Linux instead of Microsoft.

Despite estimated costs of 30 million euro and years of work, the politicians in the Bavarian capital decided to scrap Microsoft.

A wish to become independent and no longer forced to implement new software from one producer was a key reason behind the decision, reported German media on Friday.
