France is teetering on the very brink of breaching the Growth and Stability Pact, the rules governing the management of the euro.
The French Finance Ministry said on Monday the budget deficit last year reached 3% of the country's economic output. A 3% deficit of GDP is the maximum allowed under Pact rules.
But, according to Le Figaro, a spokesman for the Commission is saying that the rounded up figure actually slightly surpasses the terms stability pact.
