Canadian Carney surprise pick for Bank of England

Canadian central banker Mark Carney is the surprise nominee to replace Bank of England governor Mervyn King. Carney, Monday appointed by UK Chancellor George Osborne, will take office in June 2013, having beaten candidates including deputy Paul Tucker and Sharon Bowles, the Liberal chair of the European Parliament's Economic committee.
