Barroso warns Berlusconi on need for stability

EU commission president Jose Manuel Barroso Thursday said he had spoken by phone with former Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi. "It was a personal conversation," said Barroso noting that he had mentioned "the importance of having stability in Italy. This is critically important for Italy but also for the euro area."
