Czechs choose social democrat president

Leftist candidate Milos Zeman, a former social democrat prime minister, defeated Saturday conservative foreign minister Karel Schwarzenberg in the second round of the presidential elections in the Czech Republic, taking 54.8% of the vote. He replaces Vaclav Klaus as president.
