Dutch Queen Beatrix abdicates

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has abdicated, ending a 33 year reign on the throne. The Queen chose the 200th anniversary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the week of her 75th birthday to step down. Her 45 year old son Willem-Alexander will take over ceremonial position.
