Markets slide on fears of Italian election stalemate

European stock markets are sliding amid fears of a stalemate or a narrow win for three-time Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi in the Italian elections. The yields on Italy’s 10-year bonds had risen four basis points to 4.49 percent early Monday evening, with polls indicating no clear winner.
