Corrupt officials cannot run for office, MEPs say

The European Parliament's committee on crime voted on Tuesday to ban anyone convicted of a serious crime or corruption from tendering for public contracts or standing for election in the EU for at least five years. Mafia membership should also be made a crime throughout the EU, say the MEPs.
