UK government split on new EU referendum bill

The UK government faced another split over Europe on Tuesday after the pro-EU Liberal Democrats rejected plans by Conservative ministers for a referendum bill on EU membership to be included in the Queen’s Speech. A previous bill promising a vote was blocked by the House of Lords in January.
