Hollande's former partner appointed minister

France's newly appointed ecology, energy and sustainable development minister is Segolene Royal who in 2007 ran for the presidency against Nicolas Sarkozy. Royal is also the former partner of President Francois Hollande, with whom she has four children. Of the 15 top cabinet posts, seven are now held by women.
