German exit poll: Merkel wins, Socialists strong

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her Christian-Democrats are projected to win the EU elections, with an ARD exit poll putting them at 36%. The Social-Democrats are doing better than expected, with 27.5%, while the anti-euro AfD is on 6.5%. The Greens are at 11% and the leftist Linke, 8%.

Maltese PM hails pope, calls for multispeed EU

Malta's prime minister Joseph Muscat said that Pope Francis has "the skills and vision" to inspire the EU and that some EU countries should integrate more to be able to act.
