Gianni Pittella to claim Socialist group leadership

Italian deputy Gianni Pittella is set to be elected as the next leader of the 191-member Socialist and Democrat group on Tuesday evening. The centre-left group confirmed that Pittella was the only declared candidate to replace acting leader Martin Schulz, who was re-elected as Parliament president Tuesday lunchtime.
