MP defects to Ukip over Cameron's Europe policy

Anti-EU party Ukip could gain their first MP after Conservative MP Douglas Carswell defected to the party citing David Cameron's position on EU membership. Carswell announced on Thursday that he was resigning the seat to prompt an immediate by-election in which he will defend his 12,000 majority as Ukip's candidate.
