Ukraine appoints Georgian ex-president as governor

Mikheil Saakashvili, president of Georgia between 2004 and 2013, has been appointed governor of the southern Ukrainian province Odessa on Saturday. Ukraine president Petro Poroshenko said the pro-Western Saakashvili is "a great friend of Ukraine". Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev called the surprise move part of a "circus".
