German Pegida leader convicted of inciting hatred

The leader of German anti-Islam movement Pegida has been convicted of inciting hatred. Lutz Bachmann was fined €9,600 for calling refugees "scum". Prosecutors had asked for a seven-month jail sentence. He is expected to appeal against the decision. Pegida organises demonstrations against Islam and asylum seekers.
