EU renews controversial weedkiller licence
The European Commission granted a temporary licence for weedkiller glyphosate on Tuesday (28 June) after EU member states remained deadlocked on the terms of a regular renewal. Glyphosate has been linked with cancer but studies are inconclusive. The EC said glyphosate could stay on the market until the European Chemicals Agency dispelled remaining doubts. The agency is to deliver a safety assessment in 12 to 18 months.
