VW: EU compensations would 'overstretch' us

Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Mueller repeated to EU industry commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska last week the company will not offer financial compensation to some 8 million Europeans who bought a car equipped with cheating software. Last week, VW settled with US authorities and consumers for around €13 billion. But the legal circumstances differ, he told newspaper Welt am Sonntag. Moreover, a similar scheme in Europe would "overstretch" the company.
