Turkey suspends European convention on human rights

Turkey announced it will suspend the European convention of human rights throughout a self-imposed state of emergency following an apparent coup attempt. Deputy prime minister Numan Kurtulmus announced the suspension on the state-run Anadolu news agency. Turkey has purged thousands of people from state institutions in the wake of the events.
