Pope tells Poles to be kind to refugees

Pope Francis told young Poles on Thursday at a rally in Krakow to show compassion to refugees and asylum seekers. He said a "merciful heart is able to be a place of refuge for those who are without a home or have lost their home." His comments put him at odds with Poland's right-wing government.

Spain points at elections as exit to Catalan crisis

Spanish political leaders called on Catalan separatists to organise regional elections as a way to avoid emergency measures due to be taken on Thursday. That's "not on the table", a Catalan official replied.

On balance, 55 percent of British respondents said the UK had benefited from EU membership. Among all European respondents, 47 percent said their voice counted in the EU.
