Economy trumped environment during Barroso commission

The European Commission could have done more to improve air quality, former environment commissioner Janez Potocnik told MEPs in the Dieselgate inquiry committee on Monday. But he noted the commission was not the only institution responsible, and that during his term (2010-2014) the economic recovery had a higher priority than environmental policies. "I was not aware that any car manufacturer was cheating through the manipulation of software," he also said.
