EU border guard ready for October launch
By EUobserver
The Council of the EU, representing member states, on Wednesday ratified the creation of a European Border and Coast guard agency. The agency, which replaces the EU's border agency Frontex, is expected to be up and running in mid-October. The idea was first announced during EU commission president Juncker's state of the union speech last September. A pool of some 1,500 border guards will be at its disposal.
