EU proposes mandatory lobby register

The European Commission has proposed a mandatory register for lobbyists who want to meet with senior officials, diplomats, or politicians in the commission, the European Parliament, and the EU Council. Commission vice-president Frans Timmermans said there would also be stronger controls on the quality of financial data submitted, with people suspended from holding EU meetings or removed from the register if they lied how much they spend on EU lobbying.
