Italy: We never tested emissions on road before Dieselgate

Antonio Erario of the Italian ministry of infrastructure and transport told MEPs on Monday the Italian government had never checked how polluting diesel cars were in the real world. "We did our duty, which was test cars in the laboratory," said Erario during a hearing of the EU parliament's Dieselgate committee. He noted that it would have been "illegal" to withdraw a car's certificate if it passed the lab test.
