Refugee detections plummet on Western Balkan route
The EU's border agency Frontex says the number of irregular border crossings on the Western Balkan route dropped by 90% between the first and second quarter of 2016. Around 11,000 people, mostly from Afghanistan, were detected. More people are also leaving from Egypt. On the Central Mediterranean route, three out of every four migrants departed from Libya, but the share of those who set out from Egypt also increased sharply.
