Belgium and Netherlands swap islands in border deal
By EUobserver
Belgium has given the Netherlands an island in the river Meuse and received a part of another nearby island in exchange, as the two countries signed a border deal on Monday. Talks had been going on since 1961 when the river was adjusted for navigation. "This is the proof that borders can be modified peacefully," Belgian foreign minister Didier Reynders said.
