Monte dei Paschi bank turns to markets for rescue

Italy's troubled Monte dei Paschi bank announced in a statement after a board meeting in Milan on Sunday that it will seek a market-led rescue before the end of the year. Trading in the bank’s shares was repeatedly halted on the Italian stock exchange on Friday after it emerged that the European Central Bank had refused to give it more time to find investors to back a €5bn cash injection.
