Italy rescues 1,500 migrants from sea

The Italian coastguard said on Sunday it had rescued around 1,500 migrants this weekend from the Mediterranean Sea, AFP reported. Since the start of the year, 227 migrants have died or have gone missing while crossing the sea. The news comes after EU leaders on Friday endorsed a deal between Italy and Libya aimed at reducing the number of migrants attempting to make the crossing.
