Merkel opens up to gay marriage
By EUobserver
Germany's chancellor, Angela Merkel, said on Monday that she "hopes" that the German parliament will debate gay marriage, and that a vote could serve as a "question of conscience," as her christian-democratic party, the CDU, would not give instructions to its MPs. The CDU, the main party in the German parliament, has been opposed so far to gay marriage. Germany's elections will take place in September.
