EU commission fines Google €2.4 bn
By EUobserver
The European Commission fined Google €2.42 billion on Tuesday for breaking antitrust rules. "Google abused its market dominance as a search engine by promoting its own comparison shopping service in its search results, and demoting those of competitors," said EU competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager. The fine comes after a seven-year-long probe. Google says the commission cannot prove the claim, and is considering an appeal.
