EU Parliament confirms new commissioner Gabriel

The European Parliament confirmed the nomination of Mariya Gabriel on Tuesday, with 517 votes out of 751 MEPs, as the new Bulgarian member of the European Commission. Gabriel, a former MEP from the centre-right EPP group, will take on the digital affairs portfolio in the EU executive. The vote followed a hearing of Gabriel by MEPs last month.
