France and Germany mull eurozone minister and fund

German chancellor Angela Merkel and French president Emmanuel Macron both agreed on Tuesday to press forward with deeper European integration following Merkel's demands for a European Monetary Fund and Macron's proposal for a eurozone finance minister. The fund would aim to protect the euro against any future crisis, while the minister would oversee economic policy.

Among the largest sources of financing for energy transition of central and eastern European countries, the €60bn Modernisation Fund remains far from the public eye. And perhaps that's one reason it is often used for financing fossil gas projects.
