EU summit to discuss Turkey's membership bid

German chancellor Angela Merkel told the Bundestag on Tuesday that she would ask EU leaders to reconsider Turkey's EU bid at a summit in October, in light of its human rights abuses. "I will recommend that we discuss the future status of Turkey, including whether to suspend or end [EU accession talks] ... This is a process that needs to be considered resolutely, but also carefully," she said.
