EU approves joint Irish electricity scheme
By EUobserver
The European Commission approved Friday a new mechanism jointly operated by the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland to ensure sufficient future capacity to meet electricity demand at all times on both sides of the border. The Commission said the scheme, which is set to start in March, respects EU state aid rules. Economic cooperation on the island, in particular the electricity market, is a major issue in Brexit talks.
