MEPs vote against allowing electric pulse fishing

The European Parliament voted on Tuesday, with 402 votes to 232, against a European Commission proposal to allow electric pulse fishing in the North Sea. The commission said that the technique, which is banned in countries such as the US and Brazil, is environmentally friendly. Opponents said that it damages fishes and the marine ecosystem.
