Gabriel declines to stay on as German foreign minister

Sigmar Gabriel said Thursday he will not continue as foreign affairs minister in the new German government. He said in a statement that after 30 years, it was time for him to stop having responsibilities in the Social Democratic Party and in government. Gabriel, the outgoing vice chancellor, was tipped to the be the SPD candidate for last year's elections but he was replaced as party leader by Martin Schulz.
