EU wants 'Paris' climate strategy within 13 months

The 28 EU government leaders said in a declaration adopted on Friday that "by the first quarter of 2019" the European Commission should propose "a strategy for long-term EU greenhouse gas emissions reduction in accordance with the Paris agreement". The 2015 Paris climate treaty aims to keep global warming below 2C by rapidly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The EU already has a 80 percent reduction goal for 2050.
