EU states sign off new CO2 rules for cars and vans

The EU's agriculture ministers rubber-stamped a new regulation on the future of cars on Monday, on behalf of their environment colleagues. The new regulation was the result of a political compromise and was already agreed by a large majority in the European Parliament. Cars that are sold in the EU in 2030 will have to be 37.5% cleaner in terms of CO2 emissions, compared to 2021.

Among the largest sources of financing for energy transition of central and eastern European countries, the €60bn Modernisation Fund remains far from the public eye. And perhaps that's one reason it is often used for financing fossil gas projects.

'Swiftly dial back' interest rates, ECB told

Italian central banker Piero Cipollone in his first monetary policy speech since joining the ECB's board in November, said that the bank should be ready to "swiftly dial back our restrictive monetary policy stance."
