EU commission rejects blame game in Belgian train crash

The European Commission has strongly refuted accusations made by Belgian train officials partly blaming community requirements for Monday's train disaster, which killed at least 18 people and injured 171.

Commissioner favours EU rules on body scanners

Sarkozy wants new EU state aid rules for car makers

French President and current EU president-in-office Nicolas Sarkozy has said he would propose a revision of EU state aid rules to encourage car makers to produce greener cars. He also announced a French plan to spend €400 million over the next four years to support the same goal.

EU cars to use daytime headlights from 2011

All cars in the EU will have to be equipped with headlights and rear-end lighting that shine in the daytime as of 7 February 2011, the European Commission said on Wednesday, with trucks and buses to follow by August 2012. Aiming to increase road safety, the commission's plan has however already drawn some criticism.
