The British EU presidency is set to launch talks on the EU's 2007-2013 budget next week.
"We are going to have detailed discussions for the first time since the June council at the general affairs council (of EU foreign ministers) next Monday", foreign secretary Jack Straw said, according to Reuters.
When EU leaders met last week for a summit near London, some new member states expressed disappointment that the UK presidency had still not introduced a compromise deal.
