Europeans to research global warming on Venus

Venus Express, the European Space Agency's first mission to explore the Earth's sister planet and closest neighbour Venus, will be launched on Wednesday (9 November), aimed at helping scientists understand global warming.

Space shuttle Venus Express will blast off aboard a Russian Soyuz Frega-rocket from the Baikonur space centre in Kazakhstan, and has an initial course in the direction of the sun.

It is set to reach the Venusian atmosphere in 155 days.
